ARE 5.0 Prep Seminars Webinar - Programming and Analysis

Each year the AIA Northern Virginia Young Architects Forum organizes seminars for those preparing to take the Architect Registration Exam® (ARE). Our award-winning series offers the opportunity to learn from a professional in each subject area and use that knowledge in preparation for the ARE. This year’s series focuses on ARE 5.0 content and runs from January to June. All ARE sessions offer continuing education credit and can be taken by members as review sessions.

Programming and Analysis

This course is designed to help candidates prepare to take the Programming and Analysis section of the Architect Registration Examination 5.0 (ARE 5.0). Programming and Analysis is one of the six new divisions offered as part of ARE 5.0. The course content focuses on conducting project type analysis, the establishment of qualitative and quantitative project requirements, evaluation of project site and context, and assessment of economic issues.

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will evaluate site-specific environmental, socio-cultural opportunities, and site-specific environmental constraints such as floodplains, unstable soil, radon, lead, brownfields, abandoned structures, and other natural or built features. They will determine optimal use of onsite resources by incorporating sustainability principles while minimizing disturbance of the site and preserving existing natural features.
  • Participants will identify relevant code requirements for building and site types as well as applicable zoning and land use requirements. They will identify relevant local and site-specific requirements and how they may impact the site and building development.
  • Participants will synthesize site reports with other documentation and analysis in order to determine the feasibility of a project and selection of the appropriate consultants. They will analyze graphical representations regarding site analysis and site programming.
  • Participants will identify and prioritize components of the building program while determining alternatives for building and structural systems for given programmatic requirements, preliminary budget, and schedule. They will analyze graphical representations regarding building analysis and building programming.

5 HSW LUs. Advance registration is required by noon on Wednesday prior to the seminar. No refunds are available after this time, although substitute attendees are allowed.
